"Helper" spring on shift linkage?

My Lemans 2 has had a spring added to the shift linkage to help bring it back down after an upshift. I just did a 1100 Km trip after insuring her. The bike misses shifts now and then. Sometimes after upshifting, I feel the shifter come back down and tap my boot. Can the gearbox be tweaked with the adjusting bolt and jamnut on the rear cover? Or does the cover have to come off, and the selector spring be changed out or wha???

I have had the same thing with my V11 and it was the linkage binding (the external shift linkage). Fixing was as easy as removing/disassembling the linkage and lubricating thoroughly.

I've lubricated it fully, but it seems to me that I read someone mention that adding a helper spring is a bogus fix, and that the tranny needs serious attention. Your late model V11 will probably be totally different, thanks just the same!

Gordo,

You may want to look at the information here. http://thisoldtractor.com/gtbender/loop ... ission.htm The loop frames use the same 5 speed transmission as used in current bikes.

The shift return spring is a weak point on the older 5 speeds. If yours is original it is a miracle it hasn't failed. The newer ones have an extra coil in them to do the job properly. You may try the eccentric for the shift pawl/return spring, but mark where you started as these are usually set up properly at the factory. If the eccentric has been moved, you could play hell getting it lined up properly again.
