Does anyone know how to extract the lock barrels from the hard panniers of a 2012 Sport 1200 SE.

The barrels are matched to the ignition key (barrels supplied with bike).

About 2 months ago I suffered from the usual ‘I didn’t see you’ complaint. A utility vehicle pulled out of a driveway leaving me nowhere to go. At least the driver admitted it was his fault and his insurance company has accepted the claim.

I want to extract the lock barrels from the panniers while I still have a key that fits – in case the bike is written off by the insurance, in which case I will be able to insert he barrels for the replacement bike I will be getting

---------------------------------------------------
Damage appears to be concentrated on the fairing/headlight/instrument cluster. Fuel tank has some damage on the left front as does the trim below the tank. The seat has had the lock mechanism ripped out of the seat base. The key has been broken off in the ignition barrel. The left fork has some small damage near the top – impact of some of the broken parts.

The Front wheel/guard appear to be untouched - probably went into the front wheel arch of the ute and all the impact was above them.

Looks like new front fairing, headlamp, instrument cluster, fuel tank and seat, plus various supports and trim pieces. If up to the insurance Co would probably be written off - we'll see when the other drivers insurance kicks in.

As for me - summary of injuries
6 fractured ribs left side - 3 fractured both in the back and front (look up 'flail chest' for info)
Broken Left shoulder blade
Broken left forearm (Ulna) fixed with metal plate
Left elbow smashed and replaced with insert

Damaged nerve in left arm is preventing extending the fingers and thumb, seriously restricting movement. This should improve but will take several months. The ribs and shoulder also limit the movement of the arm, etc, but this should improve as the bones heal.

Looks like it will be months before I'm back on a bike - even longer if I have to use a clutch. Of course I'm prepared for this, having an Aprilia Mana (CVT Auto) that has no clutch.

Wow John,
Can't help you with the pannier question, but do hope that you heal well with that assortment of injuries.
Get well soon,
Nick
