I may have to change my ignition switch as I believe it is faulty. I'll be damned if I can figure out how to remove my ignition switch. It is fastened to the fork top plate with what is called "shear rivets" How do you remove these to get the ignition switch off? Then how will I fasten the new one back on?

It’s a bolt. Drill the head off, and remove the rest with vice grips, or if you can weld, tack a bolt on. Removing the top triple for easy access is best.

I've just cut slots in them and used a straight bladed screwdriver to remove. They are just an M8x1.25 bolts that is made to shear off when tightened as an anti theft measure. Just go back with a regular bolt.

I get it now, I was thinking of doing that but unsure how tight it is torqued down for a straight blade screwdriver. I might try a straight blade hand impact driver too. Thanks for your response.

If that fails, there is always GTMs method.

I removed the top triple crown and drilled out the shear rivets easily and removed the bolts with vise grips. It was a faulty ignition switch, the reason why my tail light and turn signals didn't work. I am so happy to have solved that problem. Thanks
