How long do/can you go without riding?

Here on the West Coast of British Columbia (Canada) we can ride year round depending on where one lives (how far up in the mountains and how far from the ocean). Where I am it seldom gets below freezing or snows. I used to insure my bike from April to October to avoid the rainy season. It really rains here - think Seattle and add a few inches.

Now that I've retired I'm thinking about insuring year round. Unlike our confrères in Quebec we have no restrictions about when we can insure or license bikes. I get a cramp in my right wrist in about about mid February that lasts until I can start twisting it again in April.

A bit more than 3 months ... got the Norge out Friday evening. Am a little stiff now

It's been a while since Dec. 6th... But I'm ok as long as I can do some driving instead :)

We have no choice in Quebec to be 3 months without riding. Believe it or not, we're legislated off the road here, from december 15th to march 15th because we don't have snow tires on our motorcycles!!!

All the while charging us $ 625/yr for licence plates, ($ 1400/yr if it's a sport bike) and $ 140/yr for drivers licence!!!
I have 3 motorcycles to licence this year, plus an automobile at 320/yr...

Wow! I had heard rumours to that effect, but I found them difficult to believe. Let me get this straight. The government of Quebec has created legislation that compels all vehicles to operate with snow tires during a designated time of year, with no exemptions in place for vehicles that cannot use snow tires, vehicles for which snow tires do not exist! George Orwell was right; he was just off 25 years or so in his prediction of when Big Brother would be watching...

exemptions for cars are very complicated to get, short term if you are travelling out of province for example, or a new car is exempt for several days.
There is a loophole, you print an exemption sheet declaring you are heading out of the province, this gives you something like 5 days.
I haven't heard of motorcyclists being pulled over for riding before march 15th, everybody had their travel exemptions printed up just in case :p :p . Winter has been exceptionally mild and the roads have been clear for weeks, apparently the police ARE using their judgement.

I HAVE heard motorcycles will be exempt next year, we'll see then.
I got my LeMans and Multistrada licensed today, sure felt good to be on two wheels B) and I'm very pleased to find the LeMans running very well and not needing any carburetion or ignition work, not that I mind but I can put some miles on it without any fiddling.

I'm all ready in withdrawal walking into the departure lounge to fly out
to do another stint in the desert.
I never thought 28 days could take so long.
