First you take (insert ethnic group)...haha, no kidding really. But, after 32000kms of the "shakes" it looks like one has finally gone. My Beemer didn't last half that long. And I haven't noticed anyone discussing an upgrade bulb here. Prolly cause with those big beams, it really isn't necessary. My case in point would be my old KLR which really benefited from an upgrade. but if I do throw in a more powerful bulb, I won't be bringing on any unforseen headaches, will I?

I believe this has been tried before and not with good results. The headlights go through the light switch, no relay. If you increase the electrical draw you risk damage to the switch. Not sure if the extra heat will be a problem too but I'd just leave well enough alone...maybe carry a spare bulb. My advice is worth exactly what I charge for it!

Doug, any good same watt bulb (even if an upgraded type) would do, and if you want to convert to HID, well then, good on you! Post pics if you do.

Not on the Stelvio yet, but I plan on it. HID's are good because they use less wattage, but the downside is the ignitor and ballast boxes. They do make high/low HID bulbs now, but if I do it, I'll probably do one side low, and the other side high.

The H4 hid units I tried didn't like the vibs and didn't even make it out of the gate for a test ride the beams moved so much at idle they would have not been good for oncoming traffic so went back to the best quality standard wattage bulbs I could find, osram ones I think no problems in 6000 miles

I've had the H4 high/low bulbs in the Stelvio for two years. No vibration noticed in the least.
I also put one in my EV around the same time, and it has a little wiggle on low. Not enough to be an issue. It is solid on high. Good results with about 50,000 miles on them.

The light on my midnight ride home from work is amazing. I found that the stock bulbs were horrible, And a set of Sylvania Silverstars (normal wattage) were melting the reflector, and really didn't help much with the light output.
