Can anyone identify this model? A friend of mine sent me this picture and I have no idea what the bike year and model is.

WELL DONE TODD! You BEAT me but not by much. Saw your post after mine updated. Bugger! :D 🏆 👍

Hi John!

It's a 1939-1946 Alce and it looks to be very complete! 6,390 made from 1938-1945. Quite rare.

Front and rear wheels were interchangable. The most prolific and prominent of the war period Moto Guzzi military motorcycles, developed from war experience in Africa (Ethiopia). 13.2 hp. Overhead exhaust, side inlet valve. Hand operated 4 speed gearbox. The over/under dual exhaust is correct for this model.

The deeply dimpled front fender, leg shields with integrated toolboxs (there are 2, one on each side), front fork with central spring, drilled out centerstand, passenger grab rail, reverse control levers (unbelievably elegant for a war machine) and dual over/under exhaust are the dead giveaways. It even has the absolutely correct extended side stand (missing from the one in the photo below) for desert duty.
