Greetings all. I am joining because I am very, very likely going to be an owner of a 1998 California EV1100. I want this to be next bike, I currently ride a Honda Silverwing 500cc that is just underpowered for the long distance touring that I am getting into. I love everything about the EV100 except when I rode it a highway speed the standard issue windshield resulted in considerable buffeting. I can't see myself riding hours at a time at 65-75 mph and getting knocked around. My ask of the group, recognizing I am new and have not contributed anything, is if anyone has suggestions on aftermarket windshields/fairings that people have used that have resulted in comfortable long distance riding. Thank you in advance.
Hilmar

Welcome and Congratulations! I owned the exact same motorcycle and it is a great machine. They did not come with a stock windshield so we need to determine what you have on it now.

Best thing is to take some photos of what you have and post them here. Then we can see what you have and make suggestions from there.

Also, your physical traits will help, i.e. height, etc.

I am so impressed and indebted to you, thank you for responding to my post! Unfortunately the photo I have doesn't show the current windshield, which is your standard issue aftermarket screen similar to what is pictured below. Not sure what all would be helpful regarding physical traits. I am 5'8,170#, medium build, green eyes (sorry, I can be a smart ass) 31 inch inseam, the current windshield is a good height but lacks the wind-redirection of a full fairing, such as I have on my current 86 Honda Silverwing. I know there are not those kind of fairings available for the EV110, but any advice, suggestions or direction you might provide would be hugely appreciated. Hilmar

That is the factory police style windshield. Just a little too big and poorly shaped for good air flow. A sport windshield was available from Moto Guzzi back when these were new. You might have trouble finding one. I used the sport shield on my 98 and 2003 EV and was very happy with the characteristics. This is the sport shield on my 2003 when I had it. Use the contact tab in the store to see if they have a similar Givi or Dart windscreen that is suitable. Just because it isn't listed in the store doesn't mean they don't have it or can get it.

There is only one system that ever actually worked on the EV's. The original Swaunee airo foil.
I believe Harpers still makes a copy of it.

:D

I asked your physical characteristics to get an idea of what we were working with.

You are short like me. Actually 1 inch shorter than me.

I would think that a large touring windshield would get you to where you want to go. You are never going to get an absolute smooth laminar flow of air without a proper fairing however the right windshield will give you all day riding ability. You just need to get a proper shield.

I think Vagrant also gave you some excellent advice.
