So, that time finally came, the GMG 2011 and the trip to Italy. Sooo excited :D I am a little late with this, but who cares :)
All happy with the preparations and everything I just did the regular service of the Guzzi, and got new tires. I own a Guzzi barely two years, but I had to go to GMG 2011, I wouldn't miss it.

I took this travel all by myself from Macedonia, and in the period from 12 to 25th September 2011. Most of the trip I had great weather, and no problems at all.
I didn't want to ride the same road twice, so I made a route back to Macedonia, south from Mandello, thru all Italy.

On trips like this, a man has to set his goals from start. Whether you will do a tourist ride and stop to see all the attractions in and out, or you will not be so deeply interested in walking around tourist attractions, but just enjoying the ride beside them, on, or bellow them :)

For example, when I drove thru Rome, I stopped to look around the Basilica of St Peter in Vatican, after which I thought I could go to see the Colosseum, and maybe something else. But the basilica only, took me half a day (and I got there at 08:30). For the Museum of Vatican for example, at 09:00 there was a 300 meters line of people waiting to enter. And that same day my plan was to be in Naples.

So, in other words, if you took the trip for the ride, just ride and enjoy. As in the open, the same thru Rome. And if you want to see tourist attractions, or learn what the old romans were doing 3 or more thousand years ago... then come by plane, and stay for at least 5 days just in Rome :)

Anyway. I left Macedonia, and drove thru Kosovo and Albania reaching the coast of the Adriatic sea. From there, I took the Adriatic route which very closely follows the coast line of the sea, and went north up to Slovenia, and then my Michelins touched Italian soil, or I should say asphalt :), which by the way is like a real sand paper. I made some mistakes, which would put me instantly on the ground if I were on macedonian roads.

On the 15th of September, a day before the official start of GMG 2011 I arrived in Mandello del Lario. The small town took roughly 20000 bikers from all over the world. The experience was indescribable, rivers of bikes on all streets, tents in all of the towns parks, food stands, drink stands, every town square was specially decorated for the occasion. From almost every house or a building there was a Moto Guzzi flag. More than 50% of all of Mandello streets were forbidden for vehicles with 4 or more wheels :)

All these people came to the birthplace of Moto Guzzi. This manufacturer has such a rich history that I as a fresh guzzista am still learning, but the fact is that since 2004, when MG came under Piaggio together with Aprilia, Derbi, Gilera, things started going in a more upper line, and you can see that from the MGs new models.

40% of the participants were from Italy, while the rest from all over the planet. But most in numbers were the Germans, French, Swiss and then all the others. And at the end finally me. Just to let you know that in Macedonia there a 5-10 Guzzis in total.

There are a lot more photos, but finally after three days of GMG 2011, test rides, drinking, partying, drinking, partying, drin... came the end. And everybody went their separate ways.
I decided to continue my "octan" visit of Italy and headed to Maranelo B)

After visiting the museum, right next to it there is a Ferrari rental. Starting from 10 minute rentals... So, I said why not. For the first time :) . I took the Ferrari F430 for a spin with an escort driver for 20 minutes. It costed 100 EUR with a DVD from your ride. Little expensive, but as for the first time, for me well worth it. It was a indescribable feeling. When I excited the Ferrari, my legs were shaking :D

Anyway, since I am near, and full with adrenaline, I went to visit Lamborghini factory also. You'll get used to these things here :D

I decided to pass by one more place on this trip. Pompeii. It's an old roman city which was completely covered in vulcan ash from Vesuvio in 79 year.
All citizens died from suffocating. The uncovering began in 1749, and is still an ongoing work.
Beside the "standard" sights here, for me interesting was that all over this place you can find wall frescoes and art inspired by sex, erotic images, gifted gods of fertility and so on. They placed these images on all public buildings throughout Pompeii. Very interesting place to visit.

Really enjoyed your words and pictures, Lakson!! Your enthusiasm is contagious. Thank you for sharing - hope you do more of it!!

Yeah, those will probably be censored in good ole pUritan S of A :p
If memory serves me well, there are erotic scenes depicted all over Italy, also in Etruscan monuments ... and let's be honest, they haven't changed that much since the time ... and that surely explains in part why their bikes and cars get our blood racing to such an extent! ;)

Thanks very much, enjoyed greatly. Brought back memories of family trip a few sumkmers ago to northern Italy inc Mandello, Siena , Pisa, others.
