I am planning a long European tour, part of which would be a ferry from Ancona in Italy to Patras in Greece.
Anyone have experience of that or a similar crossing

    - and here's another

    http://www.jadrolinija.hr/

They're big on the Adriatic Sea. AFAK they do have an extended summer time table.

If you're finding the lingo a bit difficult to understand, hit the appropriate flag in the upper right corner.

Depends on what you are looking for.

Premium quality ships come from Minoan Lines (http://www.minoan.gr/en), ANEK Lines (http://web.anek.gr/portal/page/portal/ANEK_prod) , Blue Star Ferries / Superfast (http://www.superfast.com/site/splash.asp).
But travellng aboard a lesser ship may be much more (decadant) fun after all and cost much less.

Depending on your planning and weather it may be better to come ashore at Igoumenitsa than Patras.
Whatever the final port, make sure you witness the beautiful port of Corfu as the ship passes by or makes a stop.

On your return, if by the same route, it may worth going through Venice as the picturesque view aboard the passing ship may well worth it.

The proposed trip is now off. I just had to pay for a new heating system and don't have the cash anymore.
It is still something I want to do maybe next year. Thanks for the advice.
