I would like to increase my range on my California 1100 and I was wondering if a fuel tank from a 1976 convert would mount on my bike, It would hold almost 2 gallons more fuel than the stock tank. I was thinking that since it is a Tonti frame it would work with minimal adjustments, other than finding a different seat. Any suggestions or ideas?

It won't. The inside area of the 1100 tank had to be pushed up to clear the air box the Convert tank just won't go over the air box. Also the 76 tank doesn't have the necessary fittings for fuel injection. There was a dealer in Arizona making larger tanks but I don't know if he is still around. I had a 1100 California tank modified and it held about 6.9 gallons and looked OK on the bike. Just added panels on each side to increase capacity. Unfortunately the gentleman that made the modification is no longer with us.

There have been many over the years that have split the Cal tank lengthwise and added width to them to gain capacity.
Other tanks can be fitted, but as John mentions above, none are plug and play.

Thanks for your input guys, I will have to look closer at everything. My Cali is carburated, and if the air box is in the way could I just modify or remove the air box and put filter pods on the carbs?

The biker will run better with the stock air box. It might be possible to do a CA III tank and air box. The CA III fuel tank held about 6 gallons instead of the 4.8 in the 1100s.

Ah, thanks John, that is the kind of info I need, sounds like a better option. Will look hard into that!
