My butcher rides and we talk two wheelers EVERY weekend during my grocery run.

This morning he introduced me to two smartphone apps. I was blown away that I didn’t know either existed. (He always assumed I just knew.)

So, I raced home and searched this forum and… no threads about the first? Really!?!

Anyways, if you don’t know about it already, let me introduce you to…

1. Scenic, which I’ve played with for the past hour and already determined to be essential motorcycle tech. I may delete Google Maps because Scenic is infinitely superior based on what I want from a navigation app. In fact, Scenic may replace a couple of specialty apps that relate to riding.

*chef’s kiss*

The second app has been referenced a few times on this forum…

2. Relive, which may not be essential, but should be an outstanding companion app for Scenic. If you ride extended trips with frequent stops for photography, then you probably need Relive as well. It’s perfect for riding, driving, hiking, etc. It’s such a cool concept and elegantly executed.

Ultimately, I’m thrilled that people have developed apps that I’ve daydreamed about AND exceeded those lofty expectations.

Apologies if this is old news and congrats if this is new!

I've recently discovered Beeline, which is a small device mounted on your handlebars or top yoke.

beeline.co

Basically, it displays the direction of the next impending turn, with a distance countdown. It also handles roundabouts (turn circles for Americans) showing which exit to take.

It runs on a mobile phone app, but has the advantage of low battery consumption compared to other apps such as Google Maps, Waze, or Sygic. The phone stays in your pocket, protected from the weather and the chance of falling out of its cradle.

I learned about the Beeline from a Motobob video a while back. Definitely something I was immediately interested in. Loved the Bluetooth handlebar kajigger but found the route planning software a little too simplified, not enough features/options for me to throw money at it.

What impressed me about Scenic is it has a very sophisticated route planning and sharing tool. And knowing I can plan a long-weekend trip in Scenic, and then export that route into Beeline, means I’ll probably get that kajigger this Summer.

I'll try it when the Android version is released, looks like they're targeting Winter of '21.
