Lean angle sensor?

In looking for parts to put back together my crashed Griso I cam across a part known as the "lean angle sensor" - what is this and what does it do?

Just curious.....
 
Very likely the "tip-over" switch, that shuts the bike off in the event of, well, a tip-over. ;)
 
That's what I was wondering... My bike was running on its side for almost a minute before I got up and hit the kill switch. Maybe I have a bad 'lean angle sensor' - :laugh:
 
Possible. I've been told there's precious little time to kill the engine once on its side to avoid lasting effects due to insufficient oil supply. Out of curiosity, what side was your bike lying on? Mine's gone down on its left side once, and once almost (caught it on my knee, forgot the side-stand... :S), both times the tilt switch kicked in. It didn't last week when I crashed the bike on the right side - I have a feeling the overheating protection kicked in that time (which would probably explain the red triangle light I had showing).
 
Mine went down the road on its left side - but it was struck very hard before doing so... I got up and got to the kill switch soon after (maybe 30 seconds).
 
Seems a number of us haven't been very nice to our rides, recently...

Hmm.
The bank-angle sensor (seen here right in the middle of the pic) is supposed to work immediately.
In the good old days usually connected in series with the killer switch.
But in these ECU-days, you'll never know. Watching Carl Allisons scheme for the Norge, it isn't.

Maybe one should loosen it once in a while for a good massage?
