LeMans III -- securing the fuel tank?

My LMIII is almost ready for the road, after a six month refurbishment. There was no fuel tank hold-down strap when I got it. How is the fuel tank secured? A photo would be really nice!

Your are missing the part, GU14102600 which is the hold down strap. There should be a hook/tab under the round tube of the frame that is below the tank, and a similar hook/tab at the rear of the tank.

Like John mentioned ........
If the bike was/is as per original assembly you should have a clamp as per pic.
Unlike mine that was reassembled without one.

The clamp you are referencing holds the transmission breather hose, not the tank holddown strap. The lower tab for the tank strap is welded to the tube under the fuel tank just as John describes.

Sorry, you are all wrong.

I have 2 LM III's, an 81 and an 83. Neither have/use a welded tab for the strap.

So, what is your strap anchored to?

My buddies LMs3 had the welded tab on the bottom side of the cross frame tube that connects to the top tube that slopes down from the head tube - just like all the early tontis. He bought a new strap from MG Cycle noted by John Z and it was too short, or didn't stretch enough, so I swapped out the strap in my SP (same part no.).

Ditto on my (now sold) '83 LM3 and it's the same as on my T3 and LM1 but the length of the strap may differ to suit different tanks. It's a pain to get to on the LM3 with the airbox on. In this pic (from the LM1) you can see the tab just below the intersection of the top down tube and the cross tube

Thanks Peter ...... found it!
Did't know I had it.
