Greeetings from New Zealand... I have the letter "r" stamped in the alloy of the bevel drive on my 77 LeMans where the driveshaft joins on with the 4 nuts. My 74 Eldorado Police(with different bevel drive) has the letter "p" and can only guess that stands for Police???? Am I correct in thinking they are stamped for different models and would for example the T3 drive that looks the same be stamped "r" as well. Cheers Croc.

Never paid much attention to those stamping on drive, they had stuff cast into the metal on the pinion carrier too.
There used to be a P stamped on the block serial for police, don't remember on drives.
What I do know is if you want to put an 8 tooth pinion in a box from T3 or LM, you have to machine out some webbing. The later rear drives had webbing removed from factory, starting with 8/33 drive models.
I had my LM3 machined to accept an 8/35 in 84, the tallest gear set at that time w/o being a Convert.

Had to go look at my boxes. Older(T3/G5) nothing on 1, 2nd one has a 7 stamped on pinion carrier, nothing on aluminum case. The newer ones (2) have stamping on case. One says 8 33, the other RZ.
I have more in storage. Why so many? I do it for a living, plus I haul ass & tear them up (It is the weak link).
