For the 2nd time the outer exhaust stud on the right side cylinder has sheared.
Looks like this may be a recurring incident, twice in 20,000 miles, same stud.

The first time I was lucky because there was enough stud that I was able to get a stud remover on it.
This time the stud has sheared off inside so it's a drill job.

I replaced all the studs (the first time) with just standard grade studs.

This time should I:
Replace with bolts instead of studs?
Replace with stainless studs?
OR........????

Open to suggestions.
 
Are they shearing when you are removing the nut to remove the exhaust?
If so, I would suggest taking some action to prevent the nut from seizing to the stud.
Or is it breaking / shearing under normal use?
I had one break / shear on my Buell years back. I replaced it with a bolt, but because it was threading into aluminum I used a Time-sert / Helicoil for the bolt to thread into. Threading a steel bolt into aluminum threads, especially with the temps involved, seems like a bad idea to me. But if you use a Time-sert it should be fine.
 
Stainless into alloy can gall. I wouldn't go that route. I'd use stock studs from Guzzi for this, but also check alignment of the exhaust system. Something is causing that stud to shear.

My thoughts also John.
This time around I'll check the studs when I check tire pressure which is about every 3 weeks.

When it happened the last time I checked the nuts for tightness after every few rides then stopped doing it because they didn't loosen up.
