I have a 78 1000sp with 4.00 18 Michelin Mac 50's and need new tires.
I was thinking of going with a lower profile 110/80 in the rear and 100/80 in the front
My thought would be that this would make the bike a bit quicker off the line.
Not sure what the disadvantages would be other then a little ground clearance and more effort getting it on the center stand.

Thanks
Marc

You actually have 4.00 F&R? That would actually be equivelent of about a (non-existant) 115 in metric. Stock sizes are 100/90 front, 110/90 rear. So going to the stock widths sizes, slightly narrower in the rear & more so up front, whether 90 or 80 aspect ratio should significantly speed up steering-a good thing on this bike. Based on charts in Guzziology, 80 versus stock 90 aspect ratio will reduce load capacity a bit, & diameter a little bit. Personally I doubt you will feel the difference in acceleration. I've always used stock sizes on my early Tontis. Others can comment on any other effects of 90 versus 80. Maybe make speedo/odo show a little slower/shorter?
