Great article!
I can see the day when all that will allow for limiting speed on certain roads, possibly via satellite. It could also allow police to shut down a vehicle in a pursuit, and have the doors locked so a suspect can't exit the vehicle.
 
Iver here a few years back there was a research study by Transport Research Laboratories on the feasibility of GPS controlled speed limiters for urban environments. I didnt really follow it through to see what those wacky nutjobs came up with. They were also one of the groups testing motorcycle airbags but found that the airbags were more dangerous to a rider during bike-to car side impact tests than letting him go over the top of it.

I do remember though that they concluded that speed limiting systems were unsafe for motorcycles because a sudden and unexpected loss of power may cause vehicle instability.
