I have a 96 California 1100i that has always started from cold on one cylinder, after a few seconds of running the other pot splutters into life and then the bike runs fine, starting from warm it never does this and it doesn't miss a beat when running - does anyone know what could be causing this, btw the plugs are almost new iridium ones and not showing any fouling and the bike has only 8700 miles on the clock from new.

How long is "always"? From new or just since you obtained it? You may have an injector that is a little sticky, but that is only one of many possibilities.

Hi,

It's been doing it since I bought it which is just over a year ago, it also sometimes smokes a bit on start up from cold for a minute but maybe this is because of the miss fire.
Thanks,
John.

OK, ignition either works from cold and keeps working or fails when hot or doesn't work at all. This is pointing me in the fuel area. I'd yank the injectors and send them here http://www.rceng.com/ or another good injector shop of your choice. For a bike over 15 years old, it sure wouldn't hurt. This would also be a good time to replace all the FI lines as well. Be sure to get lines made for fuel injection and clamps that won't cut the lines. Search here for "jubilee clamps" and you should fine plenty of information.
