Modern "No Start" issue solution

Just reading the conversations and I want to comment on my "Startus Interuptus" issue and apparent resolution. I tried the electrical approach. It did not improve the reliability. I found that my starter solenoid was very hot when last it failed to start. So, i figured that the solenoid was not moving smoothly and getting stuck at some point. We all understand the electrical aspects of the circuit. I cleaned and polished the solenoid cylinder and piston. I applied a very light coating of some fine machine oil to the mating surfaces. This bike seems to run better somehow. It always starts enthusiastically every time so far. I hope this helps someone with similar issues. My Norge is too much fun to let a small thing like "it won't start" reduce the enjoyment.

I haven't had to look into this for quite a few years , so excuse me if this has been addressed elsewhere, but is there presently only one manufacturer of AGM type batteries?

I think I know what you mean, but not starting isn't a small thing. I've had the problem suddenly recur when I was far away in the hot desert. My enjoyment was greatly reduced. I have twice "fixed" the problem. The 1st time using the MPHCycles kit, the 2nd adding my own jury-rigged workaround, the exact nature of which I can't recall at the moment. Now in the last several weeks it has happened again. Enough! I finally ran a wire from a switched source to a momentary button switch and from there it's spliced into the wire that powers the solenoid. If the bike starts as it should, fine. If not, I resort to my permanently installed hot wire. I no longer want to study the fine points of the starter circuit, voltage drop, yada, yada. Just start my damn bike!

I can't believe this thread started in 2010.
