The only thing worse than not knowing the health of your charging system is not knowing if you have oil pressure. My Nortons and Aermacchi had no oil pressure light or gauge, which always bugged me.

Thankfully, my 2010 V7 Cafe Classic has an oil pressure light, but no charging system health indicator. Fortunately, it's easy to add a device that monitors the charging system and indicates whether it's under charging, charging just right or over charging. I purchased a Kuryakyn LED Battery Gauge and installed it on my upper triple tree clamp. It's easy to install and doesn't take away from the appearance of the dash area, at least in my mind.

So if not having a charging indicator is bugging you, this may be a solution.

After a couple of charging issues on my V11 Sport, I installed the digital voltmeter from Aerostich. I think it was like $12 or $13. A bit of piece of mind, because the OEM voltage "idiot light", is... well... idiotic. The last problem I had (a broken stator wire) only _sometimes_ caused the idiot light to activate, even though there was clearly a problem. Now there are no doubts for me on that bike.

If you fancy a really minimalist battery monitor try one of these
ebay.co.uk/itm/12v-LED-Battery-level-Charge-monitor-Indicator-Alternator-warning-light-lamp-/200537741230

I've had a couple of the 10mm version like this, and I see now that there is a 5cm version

They work fine but can be a little difficult to see in bright sunlight unless you position it carefully

I like it; thanks for sharing!

The Kuryakyn indicator is actually quite bright in sunlight and then automatically dims at night.

My bike came with battery tender connector installed, so I am planning on just connecting a Battery Tender battery tester to it and check the voltage before and after the ride prior to shutting the engine off. I'd just leave it plugged in as it turns itself off after about 20 seconds after pressing the "on" button.

My concern here would be if the voltage regulator/rectifier poops-out at the start of your ride, it won't take too long for your headlight to draw the battery down below the voltage necessary to keep the ignition going.

But if the Tender and voltage check procedure works for you, that's great!
