Hi all,

after having my front fork oil replace with 15W oil and 450ml, it does seem to ride rougher, especially cruising down the interstate. I used to have my front suspension adjusted at 7 full turns out from fully tightened. I'm thinking that I should back off one more turn (total of 8 turns). Does that make sense?

Best.

What's the measured sag?

Joe is younger than I, but I must say that at my age I find such questions somewhat offensive,Todd.

Seriously, that is one of my long-made, oft-broken resolutions, i.e., to do a serious measure/setting of my Norge's suspension inparticular. Aside from my natural sloth and indolence, one factor that keeps me from the homework is that the Norge rides so darn well as it is. I change the rear a bit when Kathi I do a fully loaded run to Virginia, but most of the time, it's just fine as I first set it unscientifically.

That said, just finished (as an airplane read) Andrew Treavitt's book, "Sportbike Suspension Tuning."

Great stuff, and I am now motivated to try harder to dial it in right so I optimize, not merely get close, the Norge's suspension capabilities, especially with the HyperPro shock in the rear and progressive springs up front.

BTW, as many of you may already know, Trevitt, an editor at Sport Rider magazine, was seriously injured in a m/c accident last November. More on that here: http://getwelltrev.blogspot.com/

I think I owe it to Mr. Treavitt to put his suspension book to work on the Norge.

As a first step in improving the poor handling (my opinion) of my Norge in uneven curves, I plan to swap out the fork oil. I've seen a couple of recommendations for either 10w or 15w. Any conclusions? Is 15w too slow? 10w not slow enough? Certainly the 5w doesn't do it. Mojohand- Did you try 10w first?
Thanks- Rob

I changed the fork 0il in the Norge when I upgraded the rear spring some 12-15000klms ago. It now has 20w and the front is great.

I notice that the owner's manual says the fork oil spec is "Agip FORK 5W or Agip FORK 20W"

I switched to 15W at the 6250 service at the recommendation of the folks at MI. It has made a big difference in the forks. Much less dive on braking and better feel all around without being harsh on bumps. Just FYI, I go 220 withoput gear and normally ride solo. The Norge has the newer spring on the rear shock and I run that at the solo with luggage setting and the forks are set at the 8.5 turns out from fully tight with he 15W oil.

Joe, get yourself a set of the Hyperpro front springs from Todd. VERY easy to change. HUGE difference in ride. All for about 130 bucks.

Hello,

I´m having problems to set the rear suspension and I´m looking for rear shock spring to change the original, where can I get different spring sizes for the NORGE 1200 GTL? is better if they´re in America.
