said Alis Agostini over lunch, "but in relationships."
How True is this ?

This is the opening paragraph of a write up on the V7 Classic in Australian Road Rider Magazine. The author spent some time with Alis and her Ozzie husband Peter.

I only know one dealer, rich he ain't, but we do have good relations.

A former CEO of MGNA (long ago when owned by US interests) gave me this quote. The way to make a small fortune is the motorcycle business, is to start with a very large one.

John, if this is the case then they all should be congratulated for giving it a go.

Double D.

I completely agree. We are lucky they give it a go. I like to support local dealers, unfortunately my local dealer is over 4 hours away. Only twice in my life have I had a local dealer. One time I moved away, the second he went out of business.

I tried to get a dealership going in the mid 90s, but the local riders didn't appreciate the brand. We didn't sell a single bike and had to close the doors, plenty of service work (we worked on anything with wheels), but you have to have sales, service, and parts/accessories sales to make it happen.

Re:

several years ago I posted this at WildGuzzi. Number 4 is relevant to this discussion.

There have been a number of recent folks on the forum who are interested in buying a first Guzzi, or are fairly new to ownership. My intent with this list is to be straightforward, without any sarcasm or hyperbole

1. Moto Guzzi is not popular.
This means that if you buy a new Guzzi, you should not expect to sell it immediately. And, if you do, you should not expect to recover your original purchase price or anything close to it. You

I would have to agree with all your points daniel ;)
Back in 86 when i bought my LM4, it was from the local Honda dealer in a town 8 hrs drive west of Sydney.I knew the Honda dealers well cause i had bought a few Honda's of them over the years. So you could imagine what it was like to get parts and technical support. The dealer looked after me where they could and in the end they sourced a parts outlet and said to me that i would be better to buy parts direct and they would be happy to fit them for me. A good outcome.
When i moved to Brisbane 20 years ago i used a few mechanics with mixed results until i found my now dealer. He is an enthusiast and the business was a family affair, Tom and his father in the workshop, and his mom in the shop. Of course i was reluctant to talk to a woman about my bike but she soon put me in my place by proving that she knew what i needed before i did.
Twenty years on i am still dealing with Tom and bought my Griso from him. Even though there are 2 other dealers in this city i would never step foot in their doors to compare prices, or would i haggle price with Tom.
When i ring he knows its me from my voice, when he doesn't have what i want it's normally there the next day if i order in the morning. Tom is very generous with advice and support, and will do the odd job free of charge.
I am the satisfied owner of two reliable Guzzis, and i have a faultless dealer :woohoo:
