My New Red Eldorado

I just picked up my new Eldorado and rode home 500 miles last Thursday. I'm impressed. I had Harley Davidson's for 15 years my last HD was a new 2005 Electraglide. I wanted a new crusier bike this year. I had just bought a new Moto Guzzi Norge last year. I love my Norge and just returned from a 2000 mile trip to the Grand Canyon. I test rode a new Indian Chieftain thinking this would be my next bike. I had read about the "Bucket-loads" of torque from their 111 engine. While riding it I was thinking "Where is the bucket-load?" After that disappointment I drove up to Santa Rosa and test rode a new Eldorado. I can report I found the bucket-load. You would have to be blind and torque-deaf to not see the difference. I loved my HD and sort of liked the Indian (the suspension was excellent) however the Eldorado is superior in every way. A side note: I don't normally spend this much on motorcycles however I had a health scare and all I can say is, if you can afford it, do it now. You may not be able later.

Quick Question, is a California basically a touring version of the Eldorado? Is that an accurate assumption?

There are some differences in the rake/trail of the front end plus the rear tire size is different.
The El Dorado handles a little better overall including slow speed.
If I was buying a 1400 it would be the El Doo in red.
 
Be prepared to be the object of a lot of attention. I got my Red Eldorado in May last year and proceeded to ride it all over the place. I rode it home from Washington to Wyoming. I rode it from Wyoming to upper Minnesota and Wisconsin then back. I rode it to Kansas and then to Virginia, and back. Just before winter closed in here I took it to Montana and North Dakota. Wherever I parked it, it gathered interest. People wanted to talk about it and take pictures of it. It really is a unique motorcycle and the Red and Black colour scheme gets it noticed. When I was getting ready to buy it I had the choice of Red or Black and I was leaning toward the Black one (very classy looking). I asked my 33 year old daughter what she thought and she said there was really no question. Go with Red. So I did and I haven't regretted it. I usually ride alone so it gives me the opportunity to visit with people in new locations! It's a great bike.\
