Just got back from a trip to see my folks in the Ozark Mnts. Rode from where I live in Knotts Island NC across the bottom of Va then south back into Carolina down the Blue Ridge Parkway and over to the Tail of the Dragon. From there went across Tn. into Kentucky, Missouri and into Arkansas. I didn't take any interstates it was all US and state routes, went through every town along the way. Took a while but what a nice trip. The Tail of the Dragon is awesome, got a ticket though. Luckily it was a county cop that got me and he just gave me a county ordinance violation. Turned out to be a $20 ticket, not bad for 58 in a 30. Riding the Dragon is worth $20. Stayed at a Campground off of the Blue Ridge Parkway on NC route 80. The Blue Ridge Parkway is beautiful, got some really nice pictures at the overlooks, but the 45 speed limit is torture. If you want to try a challenging road take 80 from the Parkway heading to US 70. The first section is all hairpins and switchbacks and all downhill. The most enjoyable road of the trip though was MO route 142 in the southeast corner of MO. It's like a laid back rollercoaster. The whole road is hills steep enough that you can't see the bottom until you actually start down the hill and it's filled with curves most of which can be run at the road speed limit (55). The scenery is mostly pastures so there is no view obstruction around the turns. Just a fun road to be on. The whole trip was enjoyable and the bike performed flawlessly as one would expect. Round trip was about 2400 mi.
