Need some experienced ears

Used the pop your spark plug cap trick through the front of head and actually broke the thin metal above the exhaust seat. It actually spit a crack to the back of the seat itself. That process, it caused a deformation in the gasket that caused super heating and loosening the exhaust system. It was running so hot it was cooking out the valve seat causing the dry valve tick of the exhaust valve right above the damaged area of seat. The metal is so thin above the seat it's not supposed to handle any downforce on it.

Used high heat permatex product rated at 2400 f. I prepped "machined" and cleaned area precisely per instruction. Doubled up on it for hopeful perfection. 5 day cure - evaporative material sent away slowly. So far so good.

136 miles and shes breathing just fine with all new exhaust gaskets and oil.

Caution on shortcuts and sketchy tips with these machines. Damn near grenaded my motor. I wanted to be sure it was good before posting fix and actual diagnosis. Sorry for delay brohams.

I hope this helps someone out there......ride on flipping guzzers ;)

Ah, so you ham-fisted it yourself then? LOL. Ok. I can understand that. We've all been there at least once! Hope your repair holds out. Thanks for sharing!

Great to know you got it sorted Adam ..... Things like that, that pop up from nowhere really get you guessing the worst & certainly make for restless sleep.
I too reset tappets on my 1100 Sport & gave her a tune up.
Upon tHe next long ride the Ol girl wasnt running as good as usual, & so as V700 Steve commented, I rechecked my work - man I thought I had been careful but alas far from it. Take your time & make sure pistons are TDC for the cylinder you're working on.
It also turned out one othe twin throttle cables had popped out of the cable joiner, so one throttle was also out of kilter.
Scott - I read you haven't been on for awhile - checkout the Spine forum for my finished - yes you read correctly, finished Centauro makeover.
