Hi,
New guy here so please forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place. I'm dealing with an 02 Metal (6,000mi) that does NOT like to start in the cold! It's contrary to everything I've known about Guzzi's and cold weather. The battery has a full charge and we've synced the injection with a Twin Max, but beyond that, I don't know what to do. Also, any fuel injection reference literature or resources for this bike would be greatly appreciated.

When's the last time the spark plugs were changed? Assuming the fuel is good(?), Cali's like a small amount of throttle input when they crank over to start. Just relying on the fast idle lever doesn't do it. Otherwise, it's a bit too tough to diagnose over the net. Hope that helps.

Re:New guy with an injection/hard cold start quest

My '01 Metal was hard to start in winter and cranked over slowly. Replacing the Siemans relays with a set from Pyro Dan fixed the problem immediately.

Like Jon said, use about 1/4 throttle on cold starts. Replacing the relays is a given. One of them is going to fail sooner or later.

download the FI manual from dpguzzi.com also buy a full set of replacement relays from him for less than 20 bucks.. Seimens got a bad name when alot of them failed (at a bad time) on the 98 EV and others. since then we all just toss em for a different brand.
if you do a search here for "tps" you'll find plenty of talk on how to check that. it can be done w/out the software with just a volt meter.
6,000 miles? have the valves ever been adjusted? I don't think you have the electric fuel tap but if you do confirm that one of the wires out the bottom hasn't broken.

good info thanks. My buddy (the Metal owner) just left, but we'll start checking this soon.
