How do you check the oil in this thing? The owner's manual says take it to the dealer. The Service Station manual says to fill it to the fill hole/dipstick opening. Well, there is no dipstick and it looks like it would take quite a bit of oil to fill it up that far. Seems like too much oil for a transmission anyway. There is what appears to be a tiny sight glass on the right side. Is that where the oil level would be?

New grounds here John... getting ready to do the 600 mile service on mine this week. Can you measure the drain amount? I just looked for a sight glass, didn't see one easily... where is it located? You have a digital copy of the service manual? No capacities table in that either?

I have a digital copy, but it appears to reference the old 5 speed. It holds 500ml. I don't know if its even a sight glass. It's only about a quarter of an inch in diameter on the right side. I'm not ready to drain it yet. Just going over the new bike (needed oil in the bevel box, etc).

OK, of course it does. I'll measure my drain this week, which should get us close until I confirm with a few dealers.

I've gotten over my need to check a brand new bike and just decided to ride until the 600 mile check. The transmission is wonderful. Shifting into first from neutral at a stop does not result in a clunk, I don't even hear anything happen. The neutral light just goes out and you're in gear. There is some whining, especially if you downshift to a lower gear while moving, but that's OK, it's a Guzzi.
