New Year's Eve/Day Ride 2008/09

Didn't have a new years ride, will tomorrow, but did have a great new years eve and day.....

We went to the OC, spent new years eve at the Improv with Bren's sister and my brother in law, knew him 30 years ago when he rode and was not married to the sister in law, anyway, we saw the love master, Craig Shoemaker, very funny..... turns out Bren does his kids braces at the dental office in Agoura Hills she works at and knows the kid, so he hooked us up with the best seats in the place and hassled us all night long, it was great.... we also picked up my new to me guzzi retrieval vehicle, a 4X4 ford 150.... sucker is like new, it was the truck I drove down from Oregon when my buddies dad had to go into a retirement home, he thought I should have the sucker, only one requirement, he wants me to put a gun rack in it..... goes great off road with the 4 wheel drive too.... The truck came with an ammo box full of 223 and 308 ammo, along with a new in the package American flag, cigarette lighter powered spot light, first aid kit, fire extiguisher and likely everything else a 78 year old hunter would have in a truck.....

anyone riding friday the second?ed this on guzzitech, had a blast last night

Thanks guys, she had a unfortunate attack from a rescue dog we tried to adopt. 21 stitches, and a broken right thumb later, it didn't work out too well. She still has no use of her right hand, and the left just became usable this week. She's a trooper though.

SO... did anyone get out on NYD? Two years of no riding for me, well outside of a few short rides up and down my "driveway" that is.

Ouch! Get better G.

NYE. Met Price (Mr. Exhaust) & Safety Bob for Breakfast.
Good times. Guzzi yack-yack-yack. Guzzi yack-yack.....

Was a small turn out @ the Norton thing. Nothing like past years.
We kicked tires until the bikes started rolling off.

Price heard the call of the welder and returned home.

Jack was there with his small block 500. Va-rooooom.

Bob, Jack, and I headed up the hill.
Got up to the icy spot just above 9mi and Jack and I continued on.
Bob did the sensible thing and turned back.
I’m just glad that nothing went wrong.

We ran into a few more guzzi folk up at Newcomb’s.
Joel has a pod of rider friends with different bikes.
I think it’s the OC Swinger community. Maybe.
I had to get home early so Jack and I rode back via 9mi to lower Big-T.
9mi. 9mi. 9mi.
Sweet. Nothing like it.

Jack has a new home just off of the Sunland Big T portal.
Stopped by on the way home.
Nice place.
Can’t wait for the Guzzi-Q.

The SS was a pure joy to ride.
Still needs some tweaking but we’re real close…
Thinking of going from 4/6 on the valves to 5/7.
And return to tweaking the TPS, stop setting.
I think I’m happiest when I’m messing with things.

Yep, it was definitely icy just prior to Newcomb's, & more than just a stray spot or two, so like Don said I headed back, don't need the potential insult to these old bones. Upper Big T looked dicey too, so went all they way back to Angeles Forest, then down that to Hidden Springs, where there were several non-Guzzi folk, inc one other guy who says he turned back just where I did. Saw Don & Jack eventually motor by & waved, but I guess they didn't see/recognize me. Looks like very cold nights next few days, I'm not going anywhere likely to find ice on the roads. Maybe I'll mostly "chill" till Tues, when daytime highs should be back up to about 70 or better, where they belong in "sunny SoCal." If I go out before then, probably only late morning or after.

Hi Todd,
Just now read this, sorry to have missed a potential ride down this way, but even more sorry to hear about gretchen. Please tell her Mani and I are pulling for a speedy and FULL recovery ! bd

No worries BD, it was another very "light" year for riding again. Just have to get everyone back in the habit of visiting/posting here prior to outings (check in often!).
Thanks for the words on Gretchen... it's been an ordeal, and she's too strong willed to relax at all. I'll pass on your words to her of course. Hope to see you again soon!

I read the post too late for the Ortega meeting.
I took a somewhat wet Deluz Canyon up to the Lookout and got there maybe about 11AM. Not a Guzzi in sight.
I then took Ortega to I-5 and hit the Taco shop on Victoria Street in San Clemente. YUM!
I will try to make the Mods and Rockers meet later this month.
Ciao for now,
David
PS Good wishes to all in the New Year, and especially best wishes for Gretchen's recovery.
PPS You betcha Todd, I'll be checking in here for rides, now that I know the forum is working again.

you guys are lucky, here's what we ran into coming home, just before NY
