Hi.
I've just joined this forum in the hope I can get some help.
I purchased a Griso 1200SE 2014 with 12,000 miles.
Everything was going great until a few days when it started making a horrible noise from the right cylinder and losing power.
I can only describe it as a grinding rattling sound.
I didn't want to ride the bike any further and got a friend in a van to rescue me.
I spoke to the dealer who told me that it's normal for Guzzi bikes to rattle and its something I have to get used to.
Well it didn't sound like this when I got it and my friend with the van is a car mechanic and when he heard it he cringed and advised me not to run the engine until it had been investigated.
What are your thoughts.

I wouldn't run it. You could take off valve cover and have a look. put it at top dead center(compression stroke) and see if pin came out of cam sprocket so it changed. Take it in have it checked out.

It cracks me up when dealers say things like that.
While one persons "horrible noise" could be someone else's mechanical clatter, as a rule a change in noise accompanied by a loss in power usually isn't good.
I would pull the valve cover and look. Check your valve clearances, a sudden change in valve clearance can indicate a failure in the valve train.. And look for anything that stands out.

Based on the year it should not be. But with Guzzi anything is possible.
If you pull the valve covers you will be able to tell among other things whether it is roller or flat tappet.

According to my friend who just looked it's a flat tappet lifter and the vakve clearances are massively open.

So, that begs the question is it really a 2014 or is it a 2012 sold as a 2014.
At least now you know what you need, hopefully you can get the dealer to help you out with this, but a dealer who said that sort of noise is normal doesn't bode well. You may be better off just buying the required kit and doing it yourself.
