Is it normal to be able to hear those tappets rattling away ALL the time ?I have set them ( engine stone cold ) at 9 thou all round , as per Mr Haynes , and apart from the initial start up they have held this adjustment well . Valves are new and rockers are either new or refaced. Does that spring and thrust washer set up control the rocker end float properly ? ( my beemer ones were shimmed ) I dont mind the noise , a mechanical symphony , if you like :) I just cant recall hearing it being so noticable on any other bike .... but then those pots are pretty close to my ears

Thanks for your comments guys ,I will close these clearances up and see :) Ducati seem to revise service clearances and intervals , depending when the particular manual was written

I can't believe Pete didn't throw in his 'Cheese graters fornicating on a Tin roof' line.

The guzzi can be noisy - it takes an expert ear to tell whether it is normal noise or excess clearances.

Closing up the tappets to reasonable tightness can help - for belts and braces types check them hot making sure there is 1-2 thou clearance.

Check the pinion the rockers run on for clearance - they tend to wear. I think the spring setup is fine - you can play with shims but I don't think it will make a difference.

Gilardoni's help as the piston clearance is much tighter than iron bores.

Putting rubber dampers between the fins can also help.

Other than that relax and fit earplugs.

Ta,
