Non-stock exhaust can

I've noticed that many of you have fitted exhaust pipes that were not "designed" for the Griso 1100. Have you had any problems? I know the Griso uses a "closed-loop" system, I was just wondering if anyone has seen any effect from a non-stock can?

The previous owner gutted the stock exhaust on my G11. It sounds mean, and I haven't noticed any issues with it (other than it looks like a trashcan attached to the left side).

I'm curious because I have a few exhaust cans from other bikes laying around in the garage. (D&D from a FZR1000, Mig from a TLR, and another Carbon Fiber exhaust from who know what). I've messed around with them a bit. The D&D sounds good, but looks dated. The Mig is kind of quiet & in a silver "carbon fiber" weave looks unique. The unbranded carbon can looks the best, IMHO, has a good tone, but I think the bike is stumbling at idle?

Controversial I know but one thing that has prevented me from replacing the original can (OK - apart from cost, and the fact that I'm still toying with getting rid of the bike) is that I like the look of it.

Retaining it's looks but enhancing the decibel output, just a little, would score all round for me. Does the can still look stock from the outside i.e. is it just the internals that have been removed (how?) or the exit area opened up? And just how noisy is it?

The gutted stock can sounds great. It is throaty, but not as loud compared to the aftermarket cans I've fitted. It looks stock except for a weld on the black portion of the can where the previous owner cut it open. Some of the paint has flaked off the weld & it is more noticable now. I'll see if I can get you a picture.

I had a Staintune fitted from new so i don't know what riding a Griso with a stock can is like. I now have the Lavizzari system, loud and obnoxious but i love it. It pop's and crackles a bit off throttle. performance is good but i think it runs out of puff in the top end quicker than it should standard.

I like the twin pipe look. I rode the Griso with the CF can today and it seemed fine. I didn't notice any off-idle sluggishness. (is that a word?) The only downside to the whole thing right now, is that the mid-pipe had to be bent by a local muffler shop. So it is just galvanized steel at the moment. I didn't want to spend too much on an experiment. I've found a shop locally that does ceramic coating & may go that route, or I may see if I can get it made up in stainless steel.
