Hi all. I'm desperate for some help....
2007 Norge, fitted with Power Commander/Autotune and modified ECU about 8 years ago. A week or so ago I was out for a ride when the bike suddenly lost power and stopped. The dreaded "ECU disconnected" symbol on the dashboard. Turned it off - now when you turn in on:
1. The rainbow light show ignition cycle starts but the neutral light does not stay on
2. The ECU disconnected symbol appears
3. The main injector relay (relay 30 on the wiring diagram) rapidly clicks constantly
3. The bike will not turn over
If I replace the injector relay with another - it also click incessantly.
If I removed the injector relay altogether, the bike will crank over but, of course, will not start.
There are no ECU error codes other than the ECU disconnected icon.
From the wiring diagram, it appears the relay feeds power to the coils and the main injectors. The activating wire (red/black) and ground wire (grey/blue) come from the ECU pins 17 and 6 respectively. The activating wire (red/black) delivers 12.06V when the ignition is turned on and the ground (?) wire gives me 6 ohm resistance to the frame. The main power feed (orange/green) delivers 12.38V.
I'm hoping this may be the ECU ground wire issue that others have reported but how do I access this wire? Alternatively, is the ECU cooked or could there be a short somewhere else? How do I track it down?
The only other bits of possibly relevant information are:
1. About 3 months ago, I got the ECU disconnected error symbol associated with the speedo and tacho dropping to 0. The problem seems to resolve itself when the bike sat in garage for a month.
2. This was the first major ride after the bike was recently serviced. I had asked the mechanic to check the ECU connections but when I picked up the bike he told me he hadn't check them because they were too hard to access (go figure!).
All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Rob
