Finally got round to replacing the original plastic/metal fuel filter on my 2008 UK spec Norge with 18000 miles on the clock(well 141,000 actually that's another thread about jumping odo figure) ) . I had read so much about the grey ring of death main fuel connector it was something I had put off for a while. In the end just using a very small screw driver to ease each of the four prongs in the connector and a light twist had it apart no trouble. My filter seemed O.K. although the bike has only ever used premium Shell higher octane petrol. No signs of any tank swell it came off and went back on easy.

I did not remove any of the plastics to access just removed a couple of the screws from the black infill to allow a bit of movement. Interesting to see the date of manufacture for the frame up near the headstock.

Finally had a good look at all the wiring to check for any chaffing found this on the left hand injector, not sure if it's that bad ?

All in all an easier job than I thought.

regards

Dave

I did mine last fall. I bought the replacement filter from my local dealer.
It came as a kit with a little piece of fuel hose and some crappy hose clamps.
I made the mistake of trusting these items.
I ran my tank pretty low to do the work. Then I rode to the gas station and filled up. 3 mile round trip.
I went to ride the bike a few weeks later and no start. I finally pulled the tank off and looked at the fuel pump and the little crappy fuel hose clamps failed. I replaced the clamps with the screw type and I thought that was that.
this spring after a 300+ mile ride the same thing happened. I went to start the bike and no go.
OK this time I took the crappy little fuel line down to the store to replace it with submersable high pressure fuel line.
I got new clamps and installed it a third time.
Then I decided to look up the hose that the auto parts store gave me and guess what it is not submerrible.
ARGGGGGGGGGGGG
I went back to the Moto Guzzi dealer and got a chunk of the right hose from the service guys for $2.00 per inch.
All back together and no problems.
I should have never attempted this.

Dave, not rubbing - perishing.

MG are really good at putting in ordinary standard rubber fittings - they perish with time - fact of life.
