Does anyone know for sure if the Norge comes with tapered roller bearings in the steering head or are they just caged ball bearings?

Pete,

Are they a fairly straight forward item to replace? I have done a /7 BMW and a few Hondas in the past, and figure at some point I will want\need to replace the ones on the Norge so I wantedwtot ask about the difficulty level.

Biggest issue with a Norge is getting to them! You'll have to get all that crappy, flimsy, plastic off before you can get to the steering head. Other than that it is essentially the same as any other bike.

Pete,

Thanks for the quick response. Yeah I figured the Tupperware had to come off :D ! Glad to hear it is straight forward after that.

Thanks for the info Pete. I'll order a set of tapered ones then change them out. I've pulled both forks from my Norge a couple of times, without having to remove anything but the front wheel and front mudguard. I'm thinking the plastic can stay on to change out the bearing. I'll let everyone know for sure and post pictures when I do the job in a week or so.

Pete, should the bearing be preloaded to a set amount or just tightened enough until the forks turn freely without any free-play in the steering head?
