Not A Rally this month in SLO

Assuming I don't get stuck with jury duty (have to report tomorrow at 11AM), I'll be there by dinner friday along with Jamileh and perhaps some others. Ed and Brooke Pare should be arriving before dinner as well. That is all I know about from the Norcal group.

I think I'll leave Palmdale around 2pm, so I should be there by dinner, depending on when that is. I flew into SLO airport once for an airplane rally, and took a daughter over to look at Cal Poly years ago, but thats all I know about the area. I'll just tag along and see where others go.

I think this place will get some biz from us this weekend. could gather there Fri evening around 6 PM? or find each other at the several motels we're staying at? My cell: 559-352-5844. Keith, glad you're making it. Looking forward to seeing that gorgeous Stelvio in action. you taking backroads over, or just banzaiing as much as possible?

Re the route, Mark: me likee!! It looks great!! If i get a chance, i'll make some copies of the applicable pages of my Benchmark Atlas, just for the helluvit...

Hey Bob - that great mileage I was getting on our Nevada trip now makes some sense, in light of the RC's recent ailment, doesn't it? that little light bulb went on about 3 days ago..... looking forward to seeing you.

I'll be leaving from Burbank 9 ish. Unless I get up early & can't stand waiting around & decide to leave earlier, traffic permitting. Inland temps look pretty reasonable, so I'll take 5/118/23/126 (maybe S Mountain Rd)/150 to Ojai, breakfast at the Ojai Cafe Emporium, then 33/166/101.

I'll check back here before I go.

I'm planning to be there by 6, unless I get fed up and leave earlier. The Leona Valley fire has the plant here in Palmdale almost unbearable in smoke, and my "gorgeous Stelvio" is getting covered in ashes. Not too many good roads on the way, looks like 138 / 166 / 101.

Keith, forget radar-ridden 166... take 33/58 out of Taft over to Santa Margarita (and let the Stelvio's horses run!), then down 101 to SLO.

Mark, et al, I've modified your map route slightly to >THIS<. 229 out of Creston is my FAVORITE. Enjoy.

Thanks Todd, You comin?
My pleasure... no, taking the Stelvio off-roading this weekend up in Mammoth.

Well, it wasn't the biggest not a rally, but it wasn't the smallest either. Had a great time visiting with everyone and look forward to the next one.

+1 to what Mark said. I think pretty much all who came used the destination to arrange fun routes going to & fro, plus Mark led those of us who arrived on Friday on a dynamite 170 mi or so back road route on Saturday. Weather was phenomenal, warm to a bit hot during the day inland, cooling off nicely when near the coast & in SLO at night. Let's see, we had me, Jamileh, Mark, Glenn Morgan, Peter Levine (from Tucson, but as luck would have it working in Woodland Hills just now, with his Norge), Jon & Brenn Margrave, Ed & Brooke Pare (each on their own Guzzi), Keith Martin & Pat Walsh on 9 Guzzis (1000S, Rossa Corsa, LM IV, 2 Stelvios, Norge, Cal SS, Stone, B750) plus Pat's ST4 Duc. And as befits such a fine collection of bikes, as it happens the Mom & Pop motel we stayed at actually had sheltered parking for all. Places to eat & drink (inc the "Irish Car Bombs" had by some at "The Kilt") & buy drinks for consumption at the motel within walking distance. All agreed, gotta come back to the same spot again next year-if not sooner. I think it was all that a "Not A Rally" is supposed to be.

Had a GREAT time this weekend - couldn't have wished for better weather, roads, and company.
And thanks to everyone for all of your help with the RC - made it home no problemo.
one pic now - more later - I'm pooped.

I rode hwy 58 almost end to end (stopped at 395) on the way home. Fabulous road from SLO to McKittrick, I'd never done it before. Had a really good time, and look forward to the next. Glad you made it home ok J, be sure to let us know what the final diagnosis is.

I have no idea if this will work, to share (way too many) pix from the weekend....

What a great group of people to hang and ride with, and Mark did a fabulous job planning, and leading the riding. You picked the best roads possible, Mark.

And everyone was so helpful and knowledgeable with the RC - greatly appreciated. It did fine on Nacimiento-Ferguson yesterday, with Pat Walsh and his Duc, tho I was brutally slow on the twisty dirty parts.... (That Jag on Naci-Ferg in the pix was gorgeous) Took the RC to Kelly tonight - he'll start poking around in it tomorrow. I think he's getting pretty attached to the beast himself - it's kinda cute!! I'll let you guys know the results....

So when's the next one???
