Ok so I did say the hunt is on....

Found a mob in Italy who do frame up restos of Italian Police bikes of which apparently NTX750's are numerous.

Anybody know of/about them and can comment?

LINK HERE

What use are you going to put the bike to Mike .The police models have 18' front rims rather than the 21.
They are very much the same proposition as the other small blocks - not quite up to the same unbreakable standard as the big ones but if well and sensibly maintained are reliable.2 up long distance riding unless you are both feather weights wouldn't be too enjoyable either in my book.
They are a bit porky by today's standards and especially when the 30 lt tank is full but then the long range may well be an advantage where you are.I wouldn't mind putting mine on a diet ; off with all the plastic and get a small round headlight but there won't be lots to be gained. The standard headlight is ,by the way ,pretty shite even after a relay installation.Next step up on that front is halogen but it's the beam pattern that's more the issue for me now.I'd also fit a sump extender to increase the oil capacity/cooling .

Hi Mike
I think the 750 is ok two up,mine is!!!

The front wheel can be changed to a 21 inch if thats what you want, some of the panels are different and the front screen is a larger item.oh and the seat is two seperate items

e-mail this guy and ask the questions ,I'm sure he won't mind, tell him Graham from Stoke-on-trent put you in touch

Bike is for intially dirt road touring around Oz, all the really good destinations in OZ are at the end of one of the dirt/gravel/sand roads that make up 80% of our road network.

I didn't know that the front was smaller - bummer, but wouldn't be too hard to change I suppose, just increases the on raod cost. Others have mentioned the engine being the earlier small block (being a NoOb Guzzisti I have no idea what that means in practice) but maybe we could find a wrecked FI Nevada or Breva engine and shove it in - not too keen on carbs anymore now that I have tasted FI..

I am interested in your comment about it being porky - others have mentioned their experience is the opposite - any comments?

Graham
Thanks for the email addy - I'll fire of a quickie email to make contact.

Been looking into import into Oz and it is a major paperwork PITA, basically if the bike was built after 1989 then it is a no go in practice as the hoops we would have to jump through would mean the bike would end up costing a motsa - but you never know. Best way is if someone wants to come and live in Oz they can bring the bike for us if they legally owned it for 12 months or more.... any takers?

Yes please we'd like to come live in oz, we did 6 weeks over there in 2000 we should have stayed there , love your country and the people were fantastic, hired a Harley and rode around Aeres Rock, amazing(sorry about spelling of Aires rock.
BET SOMEONE BEAT ME TO IT, BU%%ER
Cheers Graham

ps could bring my Stelvio

Actually now that we have to be politicaly correct and all "The Rock" as it is known in conversation is now called Uluru, and owned by the Aboriginal Land Council who now charge for entry....!

Anyway - come on over, you'd be welcome anytime and as they say in the adverts - "sometimes you gotta go walkabout to find your self" and I could think of no better way to "find yourself" than riding round the mulga on a Stelvio.

You'll love the range the 30 litres gives you then Mike.
According to the specs mine would weigh 185kg but that is probebly completly dry of oils and petrol. On the couple of occasions when she has gone down it was a bastard to get her back up allthough I've got some crashbars for the front to fit and that might make it a bit easier...
Personally ,I'm a complete luddite when it come to FI but then I've yet to have a vehicle with it.At least for me I can tune carbs with no big outlay or hassle.
There are several Police models - NTX pa and Xpa -and they have different size and style wheels. The civi NTX will have spoked 21"front/18' rear combo and it shouldn't be difficult for those guys to do the bike like that as mainly road users would probebly want the police wheels.
There is a guy over your way who is well into these bikes and has/had a very rare TTc Baja plus an even rarer4 valve racer. He's got some stuff on the web and it might be worth chatting to him before you bite the bullet as he has lots of experiance with enduros from the eighties and nineties.
