Oil on cylinder

Hey all,

I wonder if anyone might have a thought regarding something I discovered on my Griso today. As I was putting my bike away tonight after two days of great riding I noticed that there was an oily film on the ninth fin down from the top of the right hand cylinder. It covered most of the length of the fin and there was also a little on the next lower (10th) fin which does not stick out as far as the top nine. It does not seem to be enough to actually drip but I am concerned this might get worse.

Does this indicate a problem with a seal or is this small amount normal from time to time???. I assume it isn't but I have seen some pretty dirty / oily cylinder heads on other bikes so thought I'd ask. It was the warmest two days temp wise that I have ridden in but at most only 77 deg. so I would think that should not be a problem.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Ed

This seems to be a common problem, there is a drilling into the spark plug area to drain water, you can see it in between the fins, the seals on the spark plug tubes leak, my cure was to remove the tube and put some silicone sealant on the o ring, seems to have stopped it.

I have the same problem on a 2013 Stelvio. How do you remove the spark plug pipe part #879987 and how do you remove and replace the o rings part #813626 that are on the inside of the tube? Do the o rings in the tube prevent oil from leaking down? My dealer has replaced the gasket on the top of the head part #880127 but the problem persists.
