Was out working on my ‘06 B11 and found this. I suspect valve cover gasket. It is almost grease like on the valve cover. Some oil staining down the head. Nothing dripping. Thoughts?

hmm, doesn't look like engine oil out of the valve cover to me... when my gasket failed, regular-looking engine oil came out. nice and clean.

I think Kevin is on to your situation. Doesn't look like a valve cover gasket leak. Also you just may have encountered something from going down the road from some nasty leaky vehicle.

Is there a breather come adrift under the tank blowing oil mist onto the rocker? how come your exhaust looks new.
Mostly due to Todd’s Guzzi expertise, mixed with some camera magic. There is some bluing and water marks on the exhaust.

Well, I tore into it and discovered the root cause. A few years ago I had taken my bike to a local bike shop to grease the swing arm and check head torque and valve clearances due to my lack of time. When they put everything back together they must have tried threading the valve cover bolts clear through to the oil pan, Jesus were they hard to break loose. The gasket was deformed inward. Thankfully I have not been through a lot of rain since that time or I may have been looking at some extra engine wear. Got everything cleaned up and back together. Back in business! I took care of the stratus interruptus while I was at it. Now have an extra 1.2 volts at the starter. Thanks to all for the guidance. F92190AC 80E9 420E AF0B 01CC18FFBEBB

Agreed John. There were two distinctly different contaminants on the outside. I must have picked up some grease in addition to oil spray from the valve cover (red oil staining).
