Hey anybody have a picture of the Lemans' racing kit's' manifold for the 40mm Dellortos?

A complete set sold on Ebay recently, and unfortunately I didn't copy the photos. Unfortunately I didn't buy the set either.

Oh well.

I am looking for pics so I can duplicate the manifolds for racing in Production class.

Anybody have a set?

Al

I don't have a photo, but if these parts were part of the race kit, how would they be eligible for "production" class racing?

Hey Sahms,

I am thinking that in SCTA Production refers to bikes and their parts as they were orderable/obtainable at the time. In 1976 you could order a Lemans 850, in red or blue-grey, Euro or US versions (at least the headlight housing was different), red frame (tellio Rosso while they last) or not. Also, one could order the bike with the performance package or without. Any combination of the above, IMHO, would make a Production framed, Production Push Rod bike.

Dealing with Guzzi, at the time, at least for me, was something of a "Take what they have, or wait without due date, for something exactly to your order." It was my experience, in 1974, to order an Eldo LAPD and accept the unit they could russle up in a couple weeks. I doubt they ordered one from the factory.

So what exactly could/would you get from Guzzi in 1976 is difficult to nail down.

Also, the rules say that OEM equiptment is required... specifically carbs. The 40mm Dellortos are not only correct manufacture, but they were orderable, from Guzzi, installed, tuned etc. when ya bought the bike. It's not like putting state of the art ignition on a 'teens Flying Merkel.

And finally, I believe that sometimes it is more blessed to beg forgiveness, than to seek permission.

heh heh

That's the way I see it. The rules of P-PP class are limiting. I guess that's why my friends call it the "liers and cheaters class." heh heh hhe

Ooops I think I got V7 Sport and Lemans mixed up as far as frame colors and Tellio etc.

The good book says that with the kit the exhaust and inlet ports had to be opened up to 36.5mm so maybe in the absence of the correct manifold you could open up a set of standard manifolds? And then bead blast them on the inside to remove machining marks.

Al,
I have a set of 'straight-thru' manifolds that are for a le mans 1 and are 36mm - mind you being stright thru' means that they would be easy to bore out to 40mm. Here's a pic in case they are of interest.

Hey George,

Looks good. Is that a MET RIK unit?

The PHF 36mm manifold is a smaller OD than the mnaifold for PHM 40.
The PHF 36 is about 1.729" and the OD of the inlet side of the PHM40 is about 1.807".

Ufortunately the manifolds for the 36 won't fit the 40.

Stein Dinse offers straight manifolds for PHM40's... I think. My German is schlect...I need to run that catalog thru BableFish.

But the one you show should be makeable...

Al,

I have the METRIK units on my Goose. Be aware that they enable the carbies to rub
against one's calves. I came away pretty sore and bruised after a track session.

I think I found em.

I wonder if these LM1000 manifolds are the same as the Lemans 850 Racing ones. Seems to my simple logic that if the company already had a mold/program to make 40mm manifolds (for 850 racing kit) they would use that manifold on a later model ....

Looks like the air passage bends a bit.
Now just need to figure out how to PAY for 'em... or make 'em.
