Hi folks like the new site,
have up graded my old girl (but she's safe and warm !) and got my self a new 2v 1200s and very pleased BUT !

The bike has 1100 on the clock and there is uniform play in the rear wheel ie wheel bearing if it were a tonti, this is approx
2mm at the rim, have checked this with a few other guys on the uk 1200sport forum seems Im the leper in the colony
with regards to this.

Would appreciate any views from my fellow modern guzzisti owners world wide.

Cheers

Don

Are you saying if you grab the wheel with your hands opposite each other that there is play when when rocking it back and forth ?

If so that isn't right, check the 4 bolts under the plastic cover on the wheel, it just pops off. They should be torqued to 80 Ft Lbs US if they are okay then I would make a appointment with your dealer as you might have a carc bearing going south.

Yes, my friendly dealer advised that some do that sir !

Hence I think that is total BS and decided to ask the good folks on the interweb !

Good advice to verify that the wheel retaining bolts are tight.

A pity that the 1200s lacks a centrestand because that would make the following checks easier.

With the rear wheel off the ground test for play in the swinging arm bearings first. Try to move the CARC unit side to side in relation to the rest of the bike. Any play felt will be loose bearings, which can be reset from the left-hand side of the pivot assembly after removing the side plate which carries the footrests.

Next check for play in the rear wheel axleshaft bearings by holding the tyre top and bottom and rocking the wheel. There should be no play at all. If there is then the large bearing on the axleshaft is suspect. It can happen even on a showroom bike, so wear and tear isn't necessarily the cause, but it isn't ever acceptable. Since you report 2mm movement at the rim, I'd have the dealer fit new high quality bearings as a warranty claim. There is plenty of info on this forum about this issue, so check any threads relating to the CARC.

With 2mm movement at the rim the handling must be awful as you start to bank or hit a bump while banked over. A safety checking station would almost certainly reject a bike with that much play, and it the bike was mine I wouldn't ride it like that.

You do need to get that sorted, and don't take any rubbish from the dealer. Been there, got the Tee shirt.

So it's still happening. Did Luigi find one of the suspect bearings at the bottom of the parts bin then?

Thanks to all for your input confirming my own thoughts, it helps having advise from other enthusiasts.
Will be putting thoughts in writing to friendly stealer after this response.

Cheers Don
