Foraker, Oklahoma. It was once a significant oil town, but that was many years ago. There is very little left.

Thanks Daniel, I've always liked your ride reports and after viewing your post today Ive decided to take a lot more photos. In the past I have been mostly bent on enjoying the riding side of the journey to the inevitable detriment of the whole experience. I have a busy month or two ahead with a local rally I started 4yrs ago, the Spaghetti rally(says it all really) in North eastern Victoria, A Cancer fund raiser @ Thredbo in NSW alpine region(Steven Walter Foundation)and a W/E at the Blue Duck Inn (Eastern Victorian Highlands) with friends.
I guess I'll have to get a grasp of uploading photos in order to share them with others

Was that Foraker-place named by a Norvegian?

Seing all those flat landscapes makes me understand why you're riding in mountains when in Europe!

Thanks for another trip :D Hmmm, wonder if that little church needs an old pastor  , I have Sundays free

From what I can find with Google, the town was named for Senator Joseph Foraker of Ohio (don't know anything of his parents). It's interesting that he was caught up in a career-ending scandal involving received money from the Standard Oil Company. It seems you're not supposed to hire Senators to do legal work for your company when the senator is still in office--it looks bad. Now, it's entirely likely that Foraker--the town--was built and owned by the Standard Oil company (or some company serving as a front for Standard Oil).

That might cause a problem. It's a school. Generally, the windows on the one-room schools are larger than they are on churches. But, in this case it's even easier to tell since above the door it says "Spring Creek School" ( which, of course, you can't read on the reduce photograph)
