Tuned and Synch'ed
Hi all,
Bought a pair of Rizoma "Reverse Retro" bar end mirrors for the Griso a couple of weeks back and have just found time to fit them. I've seen several posts regarding problems with fitting these mirrors to the stock Griso bars and thought I'd share my solution.
When I bought the mirrors I didn't buy the Rizoma bar end weights (adapters) as the literature led me to believe they would fit the stock Griso bar ends - not to be. The max I.D. of the mirrors is 28mm & the bar end weights on the Griso are 30mm at least.
It is possible to use the Rizoma "Bar end weight" (which I was reluctant to buy for $60AU), so I sought alternatives. Some people have access to a lathe & simply machine a suitable "step" into the stock weights (approx. 11mm wide) to accommodate the mirror's clamp. Others use aftermarket "cylindrical end weights" which I couldn't find.
I read several posts regarding "welded nut in handlebar" scenarios & upon my own investigations found that the nut is easily removed - it is "loc-tited" in place & needs to be cracked with a suitable spanner.
I took the option of moving all bar mounted controls inboard by approx. 11mm & all I needed was 2 allen keys, a Phillips screwdriver (crosshead), adjustable wrench, center-punch & drill (for electrical controls). The most difficult part was drilling new earth/locator holes into the bar for the electrical controls, everything else just unclamped & slid along the bars.
Once this was done I had a nice exposed section of handlebar upon which to mount my sexy new mirrors using the supplied nylon spacer. With everything loosely in place I re-attached the original bar end nut & weight, then set about re-clamping all the controls etc so they worked smoothly.
All done - all good & no more "Bunny ear" mirrors.
