Recently sold my 06 Griso and picked up a 2013 1200 sport 8v with 600 miles on the clock. I'm aware, as everyone else is on here, that Guzzis really aren't fully run in 'til somewhere in the teens have been achieved, so I'm just kind of wondering, how careful, if at all , I need to be with this engine until at least 5 figures have are showing. The motor doesn't feel at all tight and seems to want to be off, although I've kept a reasonable rein on it

interesting school of thought. When I was a teenager and riding 250's, there were some youths who swore by giving their new ( lucky b**tards) or rebored bikes plenty of stick from the word go, and claimed they were faster as a result, so yes, might be the best way, but might stick with the fully synthetic

Previous Guzzi I ran in while 8 broken ribs were healing. It consumed oil until 50,000k when I did a track day. Consumption stopped.

Current Bellagio bought off an old Doctor with 16,000k. Had constant problem with oil in the air box (blow - by).
Added sump baffle plate and followed Conventional Wisdom of letting the bike find its own natural oil level.
Bunkam! My sump would be dry. Conventional Wisdom II: Only fill oil to half way on the dipstick.
I was still getting a puddle of oil (un-plugging air box drain tube) after every 200-300k ride.

At 26,000km I did a track day at Queensland Raceway, singing 8,300rpm all day. Since then Bella has not suffered from incontinence.
Yesterday I set off with her bladder full (sump oil level at factory spec). 250km ride over the mountains in company with RSV4 and S1R's.
Bella's maxi-pad is dry this morning.

I would love an auto engineer's report on this (drawing me pictures with a red crayon), but my take is the Nikasil bore may be harder than a steel liner and therefore takes a harder flog to fully bed in.

So Jilted John, take your new beloved for a ride, many rides indeed. Caress her gently if you wish but at some time in the very near future you will need to flog her mercilessly, within an inch of her life.

For safety sake, don't do this on public roads. It will need 150km's at full throttle and bouncing off the red line.

I feel much better riding, knowing Bella has a sump full of oil - not hot air.
