So the Cali comes with a bunch of standard equipment & features bikes costing more don't even have but one I do miss is the self-cancelling turn signals.

However, there on pg 61 of my manual it states that the signal will in fact turn itself off after you either ride 500m or 40 sec has elapsed, whichever comes first.

Who's the genius in Italy that put that logic into the programming code?!

Would not say 30 meters or 5 sec be much more appropriate?

I'm guessing it's there for when you completely forget to turn it off but c'mon Piaggio, let's reduce that significantly on some future software update. Per Favore!

Has anyone even tested this feature? Will make a mental note to try it next time out and on an empty road.

What manual are you looking at? I don't see this in either the hard or soft copy of my user's manual.

I haven't tested the exact time or distance, but they do cancel. I wasn't aware of this either until I read the entire manual one day stuck at the dealership.

The thick black book. Canadian version but it's got a bunch of languages so gonna assume the US version also has it based on Edmonds reply.

2015 Cali 1400 touring. I was concerned that the blinkers did not cancel A big thanks for this post.

On this bike they do cancel after 38-40 seconds. I have not measured the 500 m distance but to my relief they do cancel.

Nice to see the Italians catching up with modern technology!

I had a 1977 RD400 back in the early 80s, and that had self-cancelling indicators.
They were 'triggered' purely on distance, so if you were sitting at a junction or traffic lights, they'd stay on for as long as you were stuck there, then cancel once you'd moved off (approx 50m as I recall).

I really don't see the need for a time limit . . .

I assumed the self-cancelling option really didn't work. Guess I need to be more patient and see if they really do turn off. The best self canceling signals I've ever seen are on a Harley. I'm mystified as to why other manufacturers can't do the same thing as Harley.

Mr Warner: the RD400 was written up as the most viciously accelerating machine known to man will not turn a corner.

I agree a distance cancellation would be much better. Perhaps the time thing is easier to do with the new engine computer units. Sometimes the older was may be better.

I wouldn't have called it vicious, was quite a Torquey Motor really.
Certainly not as 'lively' as the original 350LC.

Distance 'sensor' was a Reed Switch placed next to the Magnet in the Speedo.

The Victory bikes cancel out at an appropriate point ... Guzzi cancelling them out after half a km is a safety issue in my mind. Someone will turn in front of you and say "you had your signal on" ... having said that, I cancel manually but what's the point of the feature when it's completely inappropriate.

Perhaps quotation marks would have been appropriate but it a 35+ old quote.

I agree the distance and time required to cancel is on the long side.
