Should I Go To The Dealer?

I bought a 2017 California Tour two months ago with 700 miles on it. As far as I know, the previous owner changed the oil and filter and trans fluid (his notes in the owner’s manual) and never took it to a dealer for the first service.

I’ll soon have 6,000 trouble-free miles on the bike. I can change the oil and filter, check the valve clearance, replace the air filter, etc. What I’m concerned about is recalls and tech bulletin upgrades a dealer would know about that I don’t, unless I stumble onto them in these forums. I’m assuming they’d look up my VIN and get a list?

I’m wrestling with whether I should go to the dealer or just do the PM myself and if other stuff ain’t broke - don’t fix it. I welcome advice from those with more Guzzi experience than me!

Call a dealer. Ask for service.

“Hello. I recently bought a 2017 California Tour two months ago with 700 miles on it. This is the VIN number. Can you please look it up on Piaggio’s database and tell me if I have any open TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) campaigns or recalls please? Thank you. “

They will give you all the information you need to know.

Have a look here -it may be of some help.

The entire list for all models is here.

I’m making a list of things to do when I get to the 6,000 mile mark:
- change oil & replace oil filter
- replace air filter
- do the air filter housing mod while I’m there
- stop the moaning whale
- check valve clearances
- check the spark plugs
- check the alternator wiring (don’t think it applies to my model, but need to be sure)
- clean the mass air flow sensor
- install GPS power wire while I’m in there

This I'm sure will come as a surprise to many , I own a 2018 Eldorado , and last summer I actually
had the privilege of experiencing the "moaning whale" . Only once and I haven't been able to
make it happen again , I loved the sound , really ! Peter

I'm at 6500mi and I replaced the oil, filter and air filter myself. I wanted to give it a shot not that I had too much confidence to do it but it felt doable.

I'm still thinking about the valve clearance to try it or go to the dealer. Oil from O’Reilly Auto and I got the oil filter wrench from AutoZone. https://www.guzzitech.com/forums/th...adjust-air-filter-comments.21195/#post-176994

For the air filter box, I could only put back the top retaining clips, the ones on the side...I couldn't. I'd love to know if anyone has some tips putting them back.

yeah - don't is my suggestion. Whatever scheme you come up with is likely to be fiddly and take a lot of time. If you're like me, you will be taking things apart a lot, so my suggestion was to wedge some dense foam down between airbox and battery to press the sides together, takes about 2 secs.

All covered here https://www.guzzitech.com/forums/threads/air-cleaner-ugggggggggg.16879/
