Tuned and Synch'ed
I am assuming that the wheel rims on my 2013 Racer are powder-coated aluminum alloy. (The hoops are not magnetic, in any case.)
I'd like my rims to have a polished aluminum look--like some of the earlier model V7 Classic's had.
I have experience re-lacing wire wheels, so I'm not at all daunted by the task. And I have a good polishing set up as well. But I imagine it might be possible to strip the rims while still laced to the hub and thus save some time.
Has anyone here tried stripping the powder coat and polishing the rims--either on or off the wheel assembly?
I've searched the net for ways to remove powder coat, and the consensus seems to be to use a methyl chloride stripper on powder coat. However, there is some indication that certain aluminum alloy compositions can be damaged this way.
I guess the only safe bet would be to find out what type of alloy the rims are made of.
Anyone know?
