Hello Folks howdy ?

I would like to get rid on the start button on the handlebar , i would like to put a start button somewhere close to the started motor.
The stock button on my bike has 2 white wires ( kill switch ) and a white/black wire ( start button ) ( the start button is grounded to the handlebar.

If i buy an aftermarket button , ( not planning to put a kill switch ) how should i wire it ? Just to work at a start button ?

Thank you very much for your help.

Marco.

sorry i've forgot to say my bike is a 1980 1000SP.

:p Marco just carry a screwdriver in ya back pocket AND JUMP IT AT THE STARTER
Seriously though just get a Momentary on button switch from ya fav supplier and find a spot to stick it then locate the starter relay which is probably mounted down somewhere nearby to the starter or tucked in behind a side cover ( I know not where ) and pull the earthing lead (Black OR Black & White probably) off its spade and wire your switch to that spade with the other side of your switch going to earth. This relay is usually easy to find as it has the power in wire piggy backed as you will see if you look at the wiring diagram here http://www.thisoldtractor.com/guzzi007/schematics/1978_V1000_SP.gif All you are doing is replacing the bar mounted button with one somewhere else so you are basically keeping your wiring the same so use the same colours if you can ;)
Easy as man

PS It maybe a Blue and white wire your looking for but still the same process

1. Kym has basically covered it but why don't you want the starter control at your fingertips and where you can see it? If you stall the bike at a set of lights or at a steep intersection why do you want to gin around trying to find a starter?

For 2. Many authorities require a kill switch for the bike to be legal. The starter isn't usually ground/returned via the bar. It is usually returned via a black wire that goes through the molex connector and then to the main part of the frame. Not 100% sure on a 80 SP but it is possibly just behind gthe steering head on the RH side where the headlight flasher relay is located.
