Not sure what the hell is going on here but went to start the new 17 I picked up a few weeks ago and nothing. Instrument lights go on but neutral light isn't lit. I double check to make sure it isn't in gear, still no light. I pull in clutch, nothing, I put kickstand up and she fires up, still no neutral light and running odd, still in neutral i put kickstand down engine dies. I put kickstand back up engine starts and I ride off, no neutral light and bike running weird. ride a few miles neutral light again works. I ride 15 miles to meet friends for lunch and bike is running completely normal with everything working as normal. Two hours later after lunch bike doing same weird shit again. ride it home and it starts to run normal again. Checked for error codes and all is fine. Wondering if maybe side stand switch is causing this but open to any ideas. Does it have a clutch switch also?

As Dave said it may be a simple as a poor connection, or it could be a defective neutral switch. Since you say it is new, take it to your dealer for repair.

Thanks guys, I checked it this morning and everything is normal. Ill try to find where neutral switch is connected and make sure isn't loose. Dealer if I can't find problem but Id rather find it myself than take it 70 miles for repair.

We had one recently in my shop that turned out that the neutral switch wire was completely disconnected. It’s a simple spade connector on a pin. Poor design. #10 below and a bit of a pain to get to.

Thanks Todd. I checked and the connector was pretty loose, removed it, pinched connector a bit and put it back on. Now much tighter fit and seems to be fine but raining like crazy here in Murrieta so no riding today.

Looks like you got it... I had similar symptoms when I got mine and it was a loose neutral connection, once I pushed it back on securely it was good to go
