Stelvio idling issues

Hi William, this is very helpful, and thanks for that video. Just so I'm understanding you correctly, which solution fixed the problem: 1. Were the butterfly bushings worn and therefore needed to be replaced,
OR
2. Did the adjustments you mentioned fix the problem >> adjust the sacred screw and reset the TPI.?

I caution you. I hate the term “sacred screw” because people make light of it.

Moto Guzzi is not kidding when they tell you that it is factory calibrated on a flow bench.

You should never touch this setting ever. If you understand what it really is, then you understand why you do not mess with it. It has absolutely nothing to do with what you are trying to accomplish.

FWIW: I have setup at least 20 Stelvios that were running weird or erratic. On every single one without fail, the erratic running was due to a combination of improperly setup issues and never once did I ever detect a single running issue due to worn throttle components. (THIS IS NOT TO DENY THAT THIS EXISTS, ONLY TO STATE THAT I HAVE NOT ENCOUNTERED IT MYSELF. THE ONES I HAVE REPAIRED WERE ALL DUE TO IMPROPER SETUP.)

Thanks for your input as always Scott.

Though I always feel ignored here, I can confirm I have seen many Stelvio' in my shop with worn throttle shaft bushings that I can make cough and sneeze with a slight easy wiggle. It's documented elsewhere on the web too.

My point was not to contradict what you wrote about bushing air leakage but rather the lunacy of messing with the left side stop plate screw (“sacred screw” and why you do not do it.

Honestly, I’m over this bullshit topic because for over a decade now, I’ve written extensive guides detailing the information about this and have been trying to explain to people here why you do not mess with that screw and every so often, we get some wise guy who says “oh my genius mechanic messed with it and made my bike run perfect”. It’s beyond frustrating because even now, today, I have a guy writing me PM’s begging me to help him salvage his Stelvio motorcycle that is running like a POS.

I really don’t care anymore. If people are going to write this bullshit and the brain dead are going to buy into it, so be it. I’m done trying to rescue people from their stupid selves.

I’m enjoying retirement way too much to be drawn back into this muck.
