First Thanks to all for the info on battery relocation. That is now on hold till I (WE? Need Help Here!) figure this one out.

This is a T series that had been converted to dual discs. It handled horrible so I pulled the front end down and ordered new springs and dampers from MG Cycle. Installed them and re-assembled.
Went to put on front wheel and something didn't look right. Put a straight edge across the bottom of the sliders and one is higher by 1/2". Figured I had screwed up so I pulled both sliders back off and removed springs/dampers laid them side by side: Same length.
Pulled the tubes off and measured them: One is 21-1/4" the other is 21-1/2" & the caps at the top that the dampers bolt to are different lengths.
I also checked the rods that attach to the dampers and they are the same length. When I got the bike there were extra springs, old dampers and rods. I compared the rods and the set that were installed are longer than the extras.
One more thing: there are "caps" that go over the spring end, one looks normal the other is bowed out & bent.

Obviously somebody has been playing and shouldn't own tools or Guzzis.

I just ordered stock forks & new upper caps so they will be matched. I have parts manuals for both the T & T3 series and it shows the same rod but not the lengths.

1) Does anybody know the correct length of the rod?
2) Where can I get the "caps" that fit over the bottom end of the springs? MG does not list them.
3) What would have made the cap bend like that?

Thanks for the help, Trout

Your best bet for parts for an old Guzzi is from dealers that have been around a long time. I'd suggest Harpers, Joe Eish, and Moto International as just a few of the long time dealers. Give them a ring and see what they can do for you. Joe doesn't have a Web site, his number is 330-738-3944.

Here is a T workshop manual http://www.guzzitek.org/gb/ma_us_uk/750 ... 8GB%29.pdf

and the T-3 is here http://www.guzzitek.org/atelier/gb/850/ ... 8GB%29.pdf The TOC (left pane) is in French, but the manual is in English.

I hope this helps.

Mark and Sean and MotoGuzzi Classics in Long Beach are a good source for old stuff, they have never not had the part I needed for my loop

Too bad, I replaced my dampers about a month ago -didn't measure the rods. A bent cap was probably taking the initial load when you hit a pot hole and such. Let us know where you find the "retainers" or caps. You might have to have a pair made.
